The summer heat can be uncomfortable for everyone, but more so if you are pregnant, and especially so during the summer months.
Here we take a look at five ways you can keep cool during pregnancy, so that you can still enjoy yourself and feel as content as possible.
Be sure to keep clothes light, preferably with natural materials such as cotten or linen. They promote much better airflow which ultimately keeps you a lot cooler. Also, keep clothes light in colour too! Wearing dark coloured clothes in the sunny weather will only absorb heat even quicker.
If you have outdoor activities planned during summer, be mindful of the time. Try to arrange plans in the cooler parts of the day, so either morning or later on in the day, after 3pm.
If you find that you are becoming too hot, if you are at home and it's possible, try taking frequent showers. Opt for a lukewarm shower or bath rather than ice cold. Ice cold will only shock your body, while a lukewarm temperature will allow your body to gradually adjust and cool down in a more comfortable way.
If you're at work and a shower isn't possible, try running your wrists under a cool water tap for an instant soothing feeling.
It is crucial to drink plenty of water and fluids whilst pregnant. In the summer months especially, be sure to carry a bottle of water with you at all times, and take regular drinks all through the day. Remember it can be so easy to become dehydrated while pregnant so always be prepared!
Avoiding direct sunlight can sometimes mean staying indoors, but what if it is hot indoors too? During pregnancy you should consider buying a fan to keep you cool indoors. It will allow some temporary relief that will enable you to feel more comfortable.
