Plans can really fall by the wayside in January. It's generally the month when everyone wants to recuperate from December, save money and just stay home in the warmth. Of course this can mean that our fitness or health goals, that we may have set for ourselves for the New Year, are already being postponed.
Staying motivated to exercise in winter is particularly difficult, so here are a few reasons that will help to keep you on track and active throughout the cold, winter months.
That's right, exercising doesn't have to invole leaving the comfort of your home. If you usually go for a run but simply cannot face the thought of braving the cold, why not instead opt for an at-home exercise routine? There are plenty of free workout routines online that you can try - meaning that you will be getting your exercise in without the chill putting you off.
Of course, if you do fancy the outdoors don't let us stop you! One of the perks of taking on the cold, and getting active outdoors in winter, is that it helps you to burn even more calories. With your body working harder to get you through your workout, you consequently burn more even more calories than you usually would. So why not wrap up and try that 5k run?
Sometimes it can be hard to get out of the January cycle of feeling lethargic and unmotivated, however do remember that exercise can help to tackle those winter blues by boosting endorphins and elevating your mood. It will ultimately leave you happier and ready to continue on your path to winter fitness!
January is all about new starts and trying new things, so if you're not feeling motivated by your normal exercise routine, why not try something new? There are plenty of indoor activities to choose from such as yoga or swimming, or if you are a gym member why not try a new fitness class, such as spinning.
