Talking to your GP about your health concerns is never easy, and it is made even harder when the particular concern happens to be considered ‘embarrassing’. This was highlighted recently by a survey from PushDoctor.co.uk. The survey which studied 61 million Google UK searches for ‘embarrassing’ conditions, found that the conditions which find most embarrassing include anxiety, chlamydia and thrush. So why do we find it so hard to get over our fears and see our doctor?
Dr Helen Webberley, our dedicated GP, explores this topic in detail for BT Lifestyle. In this recent article, she explains that “some people are worried about bothering their doctor unnecessarily. But we’ve seen it all, we’ve heard it all, there’s nothing really that’s going to shock us. What we’d never want is for people to not go to the doctor, just because they were embarrassed. If you are worried about a condition, then you need to go to the GP.”
