The summer holiday season is finally here, and many of us will be looking to travel abroad for our summer adventure. Whether you’re heading for some sun, sea and beach fun with the kids or a trip of a lifetime around the world, you’ll no doubt want to make travel as easy and straightforward as possible.
The great news is that there are plenty of handy travel gadgets which can help keep the kids entertained on long journeys, make sure you always have your phone fully charged and much more. Here’s our list of top travel gadgets for 2016, which will make your holiday adventures plain sailing, wherever you’re headed.
We’ve all been to the beach and battled with sand getting everywhere, it’s just par for the course on a beach holiday. But an innovation called The Sandless Beach Mat, originally designed for military use, repels the sand, leaving you with a sand-free ground sheet to relax on. Perfect for individual travellers and families alike, users can kick back and relax on the beach without the hassle of sand everywhere.
Whether you’re camping on a family holiday or heading to remote parts of the world, a must have item in your luggage is a solar-powered inflatable light. One type of these, LuminAID, will ensure you always have light when you need it. Using solar energy, a 6-7 hour charge will give up to 16 hours of illumination, and it’s incredibly light, waterproof and compact to fit in any sized luggage.
In a similar vein to our first item, most beach lovers will jump at the chance to own a sand-free beach tote bag. Made using a woven PVC/PE material that prevents the bag from filling with sand, these incredibly handy, robust bags will make beach life so much easier.
Wherever you are in the world, with a wireless portable speaker, like the Divoom Airbeat 10, you can have the luxury of music. This high-tech wireless Bluetooth portable speaker has a suction cup on the base, that sticks to any hard surface, to bring you those tunes you just can’t live without while you’re away. It’s incredibly light and compact, so it won’t take up too much luggage space.
Travelling on long journeys can easily drain the battery on your phones, tablets and other devices, particularly if you’re trying to keep the kids entertained. However, you can always make sure devices are fully charged by packing a portable power bank or battery charger. Some like the Aukey use mains power to charge up, but still provide excellent portable charge time on the go for multiple devices. There are also solar powered options too, from the likes of Solstice Power Solutions. This gives you the option of recharging using mains power or solar.
A great investment for any traveller is a waterproof mobile phone or tablet case. This means that even if you forget your phone is in your pocket as you dive into the sea, or you accidentally spill a drink on your tablet, your device won’t get water damaged in the process, which will save you a lot of money too. There are various options for smartphones available including iPhone and Android versions.
If you’re travelling with kids abroad, you will want to have peace of mind that you know where they are. Naturally, their curiosity can cause them to wonder a little further than they might at home, but you can keep tabs on where they are and make sure they don’t stray too far with a child safety locator, like the My Buddy Tag Locator. Using Bluetooth technology, these clever devices send an alert to your smartphone when your child goes out of proximity. It also comes with a built-in child panic button and can also alert you if it’s submerged in water to help prevent accidental drowning. It might not be for every parent, but it can give you more peace of mind while you’re away.
Of course, there are hundreds of travel gadgets available designed to suit all kinds of travellers, but with one or all of these gadgets, you can make sure you have everything you could possibly need whilst enjoying your holidays, without taking up too much luggage space either.
