Loestrin 30 is a contraceptive pill used to stop eggs becoming fertilised and preventing pregnancy. Loestrin is a ‘combined contraceptive pill’ because it contains two types of medicines:

  • Norethisterone acetate: a hormone called ‘progestogen’

  • Ethinylestradiol: a hormone called ‘oestrogen’.

These two hormones are similar to those produced naturally by your body during pregnancy.

  • A couple of days after you have taken the last Loestrin tablet, you will have had your period.

  • Providing you have taken Loestrin tablets correctly, you do not need to use any additional contraceptive protection during this 7-day break.
