A. If your veterinarian believes that your pet requires prescription medication, you can request a written prescription so you can order the medication online rather than picking them up in person. Q. Can I get prescription medication without seeing a vet?

A. You must consult your veterinarian. Since the law was changed in 2005, veterinarians must allow their patients to purchase medications from the supplier of their choosing. Your veterinarian will be aware of this process and will offer a prescription that has been signed upon request.

Q. Can doctors write pet prescriptions?

A. Animals can only be prescribed medicine by veterinarians.

Q. How long is a vet prescription valid?

A. A typical veterinary prescription is good for up to six months after the day it was signed. A veterinarian may request a shorter expiration date, but only for medical needs.
