No, Lumigan as an Eyelash Serum is not available on the NHS.

You can. However, several clinical trials have shown that Lumigan Eyelash Serum does not cause new eyelashes to grow in eyelash alopecia.2,3

It does cause any eyelashes that you have to grow longer and thicker but cannot restart growth in follicles which have been affected by alopecia.

Studies show that applying only to the upper lash line increases growth and thickness for both upper and lower lashes, as the serum transfers and spreads between all lashes.

Applying Lumigan Lash Serum to the lower lashes is not recommended and not necessary.

Lumigan Eyelash Serum comes as a solution (liquid) and is applied to the upper lash line only (the skin on your eyelid at the base of your upper eyelashes) once a day, usually in the evening.

Many patients using these drops began to grow longer, fuller and darker lashes as a side effect. This led Allergan to study the medication's active ingredient, Bimatoprost, specifically for growing lashes. 

After clinical trials to study the safety and effectiveness for lash growth, Lumigan was relaunched as an eyelash serum in the USA. It was named “Latisse” and was approved by the FDA (USA medicines regulatory body) in 2008.

We ask questions because Lumigan Eyelash Serum is a prescription-only treatment, it is important you answer honestly so we can prescribe safely for you.

Active ingredient: bimatoprost.
Inactive ingredients: benzalkonium chloride; sodium chloride; sodium phosphate, dibasic; citric acid; and purified water. Sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid may be added to adjust pH. The pH during its shelf life ranges from 6.8 - 7.8.

To properly store Lumigan, keep it at room temperature within the range of 2°C to 25°C (36°F to 77°F). There is no requirement to refrigerate it.

For your safety and comfort, we advise removing your contact lenses before applying Lumigan. Wait at least 30 minutes before re-inserting them. Lumigan contains Benzalkonium Chloride, a preservative that may be absorbed by your contact lenses and cause eye irritation. Applying Lumigan before bedtime is recommended, as it typically avoids any issues with contact lens wear during the treatment.

If you begin using a new eye drop, it is generally unlikely that it will interfere with Lumigan. However, it is essential to inform the doctor who prescribed the new eye drop about your use of the eyelash serum, Lumigan. Alternatively, you can inform a member of our trained healthcare team, and based on the information you provide, they will offer appropriate advice and guidance.

If you become pregnant or start breastfeeding, it is advisable to discontinue the use of Lumigan.

If you happen to miss an application, simply resume the treatment the following day and maintain your regular schedule. Avoid attempting to apply extra doses to catch up. Stick to the prescribed usage to ensure proper effectiveness.
