Eumovate is a mild steroid used to treat moderate eczema on the body, arms, and legs. GlaxoSmithKline manufactures it, and the active ingredient is 0.05% clobetasone butyrate. Eumovate can be purchased as a cream or an ointment from OxfordOnlinePharmacy.

Eczema causes inflammation and the loss of natural skin oils, causing the skin to dry out. Toxins and irritants cannot be kept out of the body through dry skin. This causes further inflammation and a vicious cycle of dryness, irritation, and more drying. Eczema refers to these dry, irritated patches of skin.

Eczema is best managed by applying moisturising emollients on a regular basis, which frequently reduces inflammation. In most situations, however, this will not be enough to entirely control the sore, irritated skin. Using a steroid cream or ointment, such as Eumovate, will minimise skin inflammation and allow the skin to heal.

Moisturising emollients (lotions, creams, and ointments) replenish and rehydrate the skin's softening oils. Eumovate ointment is more effective than Eumovate cream because it has a greater protective barrier effect. Because the ointment can feel greasy and appear glossy on the skin, it is best administered at night.

How to use Eumovate Cream (Clobetasone 0.05%) 100g

Always follow your doctor's instructions when taking this medication. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or chemist.

Taking this medication

  • Eumovate is often applied up to two times per day. This could be reduced as your skin improves.
  • This cream should only be used on your skin.
  • Do not apply on large parts of the body for an extended period of time (for example, every day for several weeks or months) unless directed by your doctor.
  • If you are using an emollient (moisturising) preparation, wait for Eumovate to be absorbed before applying the emollient.
  • If you are applying the lotion to someone else, wash your hands afterward or wear disposable gloves.
  • Consult your doctor if your skin problem does not improve after four weeks.

Instructions on how to apply the cream

  1. Please wash your hands.
  2. Apply a tiny layer to the affected area(s) and gently rub it in until it is completely gone. You can use your fingertip to determine how much Eumovate to use. For children, use less cream but still measure out the fingertip unit with an adult finger. This image depicts one Fingertip unit.
  3. Unless the cream is supposed to be used to your hands as part of the treatment, wash them again after applying it.
