Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) 2.5mg + 5mg Starter Pack for Weight Loss

For your first dose of 2.5mg you will:

• Inspect the pen before use – check the expiry date on the pen, the dose and discard if there's particulate matter or discolouration, and don’t use it if the pen has been frozen.

• Attach the needle and prime your injection pen.

• Choose a site of injection (abdomen, thigh, or the back of the upper arm) and clean the area with an alcohol wipe.

• Administer your dose and replace the needle cap.

• Dispose of the needle in your sharps bin (4).

You will take your 2.5mg dose once-weekly for month one of your treatment as there are 4 doses in one Mounjaro Kwikpen.

How do I increase my dose from 2.5mg to 5mg?

Increasing your dose from 2.5mg to 5mg is easy once you are used to using the Mounjaro Kwikpen.

If you are tolerating 2.5mg well, you will simply increase your dose to 5mg the following month by using your second 5mg dose pen once-weekly for the following month. If you are then tolerating your 5mg dose well and are losing weight you can remain on the 5mg as it is a maintenance dose, or if you feel your weight loss is slow you can then move up in 2.5mg increments to 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, 15mg if needed (3).

You can discuss all dose increases with your prescriber.

How should I store the 5mg pen while I'm still using the 2.5mg pen in month one?

When you receive both pens place both in your fridge immediately. You can then start using the 2.5mg pen immediately as your first month dose. As Mounjaro has a shelf life of 24 months when refrigerated (2-8℃) and the pens are delivered in cold-chain, you will refrigerate your second 5mg pen (2-8℃) until you need it for your second month of treatment.

What happens if I'm not tolerating 2.5mg well when it's time to move to 5mg?

If you are not tolerating 2.5mg well, you can remain on 2.5mg by ordering another 2.5mg pen and keep your 5mg refrigerated until you are ready to move up doses to 5mg.

You can discuss any side effects and your tolerability with your prescriber who will recommend the correct course of treatment.

Vision changes

Most people using Mounjaro don't experience vision problems, though temporary blurred vision can occur in the first few weeks due to blood sugar changes as your body adjusts to treatment. For those with type 2 diabetes and existing Diabetic Retinopathy, rapid blood sugar improvements can occasionally trigger a flare-up.

If you experience sudden or painful changes to your vision, or changes that don’t ease after a few days, pause treatment and seek a same-day appointment with your optician, or call NHS 111 for out-of-hours care.

Serious side effects

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop using Mounjaro and contact your doctor immediately:

Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)

• Inflamed pancreas (acute pancreatitis) which could cause severe pain in the stomach and back which does not go away. You should see a doctor immediately if you experience such symptoms.

Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1000 people)

• Severe allergic reactions (eg anaphylactic reaction, angioedema). You should call 999 if you experience symptoms such as breathing problems, rapid swelling of the lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty swallowing and a fast heartbeat.

Pancreatitis

• Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) is a possible side effect with GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GLP-1/ GIP receptor agonists.

• In rare reports this can have serious or fatal outcomes

• Seek urgent medical attention if you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain, that may radiate to your back and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, as this may be a sign of pancreatitis

• Do not restart GLP-1 receptor agonist or GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist treatment if pancreatitis is confirmed

• Report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme
