What is Foundayo (Orforglipron)?

Foundayo is a once-daily weight loss tablet that helps overweight and obese adults manage their weight. In combination with a healthy diet and regular exercise, it has shown to be effective for weight loss and helping people achieve a healthier lifestyle (1).

Like other weight loss products like Wegovy injections, Mounjaro and the Wegovy pill, Foundayo may help users with food cravings, hunger and feeling fuller for longer periods of time.

How Does Foundayo (Orforglipron) work?

Foundayo, often referred to as the GLP-1 pill, is the first non-peptide oral GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for weight management. What this means is: it activates the GLP-1 receptor just as medicines containing Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) do, but it does so using a different (non-peptide) molecule.

Despite being a different molecule, Orforglipron still works by activating GLP-1 receptors found in your gut and brain. Activating these receptors causes your brain to slow down digestion in your gut and reduces the reward associated with eating (1). Both of these changes cause you to feel fuller for longer and suppresses your appetite (1).

Unlike injectable GLP-1 medications and Wegovy pill, Foundayo is taken once daily at any time of day, with or without food, and without water restrictions which are huge advantages (1).

Who can take Foundayo (Orforglipron)?

You may be eligible for Foundayo if you are an adult with (6):

• An initial BMI of 30 or above (obesity), or

• An initial BMI of 27 or above (overweight) plus at least one weight-related health condition — examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol or other dyslipidaemia, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea, or cardiovascular disease.

If you are eligible, Foundayo may be preferred by people who also:

• Experience a phobia or dislike of needles

• Have previously chosen not to use GLP-1 medications because of needles

• Experienced adverse reactions at the injection site with injectable GLP-1s

• Have lifestyle restrictions that make injections hard to administer injections

• Have previously tried another weight loss medication that was ineffective (lost less than 5% of their body weight in 6 months of taking medication)

• Simply prefer taking tablets

It’s important to note that just meeting this criteria does not make you automatically eligible for Foundayo – this will need to be decided with your prescriber.

Before prescribing, your prescriber will ask you a series of questions about your health, medical history, whether you’ve used weight loss medications before and lifestyle.

Who is not eligible for the Foundayo (Orforglipron)?

During your consultation, your prescriber will establish whether Foundayo is suitable for you and your lifestyle. However, it is not suitable if you (6):

• Are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding

• Are under 18 years of age

• Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma

• Have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2

• Have had a serious allergic reaction to Orforglipron or any of the tablet's ingredients

• Have severe liver impairment

• Have severe gastroparesis (a condition that significantly slows stomach emptying)

• Are already taking another GLP-1 receptor agonist (such as Wegovy, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Saxenda or Rybelsus)

• Taking Simvastatin medication for cholesterol or cardiac health (you can use Foundayo on other Statins – please see your GP before changing or stopping)

• Certain medications may make Foundayo an unsuitable option (see our Directions for Use section for more information)

How much weight can you lose on the Foundayo (Orforglipron)?

A 2025 clinical trial found that users at the highest dose of Foundayo (17.2mg once daily), lost an average of 11.1% of body weight at 72 weeks, compared to 2.1% with placebo (2).

Results also showed that people on:

• 5.5 mg lost an average of 7.4% body weight

• 9mg lost an average of 8.3% body weight

Of the total participants in the study:

• 71.5% lost 5% body weight or more

• 54.5% lost 10% body weight or more

• 35.9% lost 15% body weight or more

• 18.4% lost 20% body weight or more

Foundayo vs Mounjaro vs Wegovy

When comparing Foundayo vs Semaglutide (Wegovy) vs Tirzepatide (Mounjaro), results show on the highest doses of each weight loss medication:

• Semaglutide users lost on average 19-21% of baseline body weight (72 weeks) (4)

• Tirzepatide users lost on average 20–22.5% of baseline body weight (72 weeks) (3)

• Orforglipron users lost on average 11.1–12.4% of baseline body weight (72 weeks) (2)

It’s important to note that different weight loss medications work more and less effectively for different people. One medication that works for someone may not work for another. This is just a guideline comparison and does not reflect what will work for each individual.

How to get the Foundayo pill (Orforglipron) in the UK

Foundayo has now been appproved by MHRA. You can now order all doses with prescription. You will need to fill out a consultation form to confirm your eligibility.

It has not been confirmed when Foundayo will be available on the NHS, but expect this to be later than on private prescription.

Advisory information:

Pregnancy and Foundayo:

You should not take Foundayo if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. This is because the effects on an unborn child are unknown. If you do become pregnant whilst taking Foundayo, contact your prescriber immediately. If you wish to become pregnant, discuss how to change your treatment with your doctor as you should stop using this medicine at least 3 weeks in advance (6).

Contraception and Foundayo:

Foundayo is known to reduce the effectiveness of hormonal oral contraception. It is advised to use an additional barrier method such as condoms for 30 days after starting treatment and for 30 days after each dose escalation (6).

Surgery and Foundayo:

If you are having surgery in the future, you must make your surgeon aware of any weight loss medications such as Foundayo, that you are taking now or have taken in the last 6 months (6).
