If you are looking for a more affordable weight loss medication, Orforglipron, sold under the brand name Foundayo, could offer an alternative. Not only is it clinically effective with the Attain-1 study treatment-regimen estimand* showing more than 54% of adults taking the highest dose lost at least 10% of their body weight after 72 weeks (1), but it could also be less expensive than injectable GLP-1 medications, which could make a better approach to maintenance of weight loss.
*Treatment-regimen estimand counts everyone who took the drug, including those who stopped early. It reflects real-world use rather than only people who took it exactly as planned.
Where can I buy Foundayo?
Foundayo was approved for weight management and type 2 diabetes by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) on 10th August 2026 (2). This means that it has only recently become available to purchase legally here in the UK.
At the current time, it is not available on the NHS. As a prescription-only medication, it should only be bought from GPhC-registered pharmacies like Oxford Online Pharmacy, following a consultation with a licensed, registered clinician.
For your safety, avoid illegal online weight loss medications by only buying weight loss medicines from a licensed UK pharmacy or other regulated healthcare provider. Medicines obtained from unregulated websites, social media sellers or informal sources may be counterfeit, unlicensed, incorrectly stored or transported, or contain different ingredients or doses than stated. This could put your health at risk (3).
What is the cost of Foundayo pills with a private prescription?
UK pharmacies are allowed to set their own price when it comes to private prescriptions. It is for this reason that you may see some significant variations in the private prescription price for Foundayo, especially when you consider any introductory or other discounts that brands may be offering (4).
Private starting prices start at around £100 per month for lower doses, scaling up to around £179 per month for the highest doses. We will explore current prices in more detail later in this blog.
What is the cost of Foundayo on the NHS?
As we know, Orforglipron is not yet available on the NHS. NICE is currently assessing it for weight management, with final guidance expected to be announced in mid-November 2026. That guidance will determine if and how it is funded in England.
If NICE believes that it will offer sufficient clinical and cost-effectiveness for NHS funding in England, it would normally be required to make treatment available within three months of the final guidance. This would suggest that Foundayo could be available on the NHS as early as February 2027. However, actual access could be later if they decide that the rollout should be phased, if eligibility for treatment is restricted or local weight-management services need additional time to establish prescribing pathways.
If Foundayo does become available on the NHS, it is likely the standard NHS prescription charge of £9.90 for treatment would apply, however we cannot confirm this until the actual figure is released (5).
Why is Foundayo prescription-only?
Prescription-only medicines require a healthcare professional's assessment because getting the right treatment isn't just about matching a symptom to a drug — it's about weighing up the whole clinical picture for that individual.
When you consult a prescriber, they'll consider several factors before deciding whether a medicine is right for you:
Suitability: Your symptoms and medical history help determine whether the medicine is likely to work for your specific situation, and whether any underlying conditions might make it unsuitable or require closer monitoring.
Drug interactions: Your current medicines are checked against the new treatment to avoid harmful interactions or reduced effectiveness.
Allergies and contraindications: Known allergies or sensitivities are screened to prevent adverse reactions.
Dosing: Prescribers determine the correct starting dose and any adjustments needed over time, based on factors like age, weight, kidney or liver function, and how you respond to treatment.
Side effect management: They can explain what Foundayo side effects to expect, how common or serious they are, and how to manage mild ones at home.
When to seek help: Prescribers give clear guidance on red-flag symptoms that mean you should contact a doctor or seek urgent medical attention.
This oversight is what separates prescription-only medicines from over-the-counter options — the professional judgement involved reduces the risk of harm and increases the likelihood the treatment actually helps.
In the case of Foundayo, it is not suitable for everyone, and you must have an individual clinical assessment to assess that is it appropriate for you needs. You will also need to have your dose and side effects monitored throughout your treatment (6).

This table also doesn’t include any discounts that individual providers may be offering. For example, at Oxford Online Pharmacy we are currently offering £15 off all Orforglipron doses when you use the code WL15. This would make the starting dose of Foundayo just £84.99.
We also offer a lowest price guarantee. If you find it cheaper somewhere else, we'll refund the difference (T&Cs apply).
What drives price difference betwee providers for Foundayo?
There are many factors that can affect variation in price across different Orforglipron providers including:
Your current dose/titration stage
The size of the pack you are buying
Consultation fees
Special offers/discounts
Each provider sets their own prices depending on what they can offer their customers, however they tend to be similar pricing unless a provider decides to heavily discount their costs.
Price can also be affected by whether medication is part of a treatment bundle. For example, we currently offer a 0.8mg and 2.5mg starter pack for just £214.99 which offers a comparable saving against buying each dose individually.
