How to use Femodette Pill

Each Femodette pill is marked with a day of the week; it is important to begin the course of administration by taking the pill corresponding to the day of the week.

One pill must be taken per day for 21 days, ensuring that the pill is taken at a consistent time each day and that you do not miss any days.

The pills must not be chewed, swallow whole with water if required.

Femodette is perfectly safe for the vast majority of healthy women though the advantages and disadvantages of the treatment must be considered to evaluate whether Femodette is a suitable medication.

Certain medical conditions can also render Femodette as an inappropriate course of action, including:

• If you have (or have ever had) a blood clot in a blood vessel of your legs (deep vein thrombosis, DVT), your lungs (pulmonary embolus, PE) or other organs.

• If you have a condition affecting your blood’s clotting processes, for example, Factor V Leiden, antithrombin-III deficiency, antiphospholipid antibodies, or protein C or S deficiencies.

• If you spend large amounts of time sitting down or are in need of an operation.

• If you have ever experienced a stroke or a heart attack.

• If you have (or have ever had) angina pectoris (a condition that causes severe chest pain and may be the first sign of a heart attack) or transient ischaemic attack (TIA – temporary stroke symptoms).

• If you are afflicted by any of the following diseasing that have been known to increase the prevalence of clotting in arteries such as:

  • High levels of fat in the blood, caused by hyperhomocysteinaemia

  • High blood pressure (hypertension)

  • severe diabetes which has caused permanent blood vessel damage.

• If you have (or have ever had) migraines or a type of a migraine called ‘a migraine with aura’.

• If you currently have or have ever had breast cancer.

• If you have ever contracted a serious liver disease, or if your doctor has informed you that your liver function test results have not yet returned to normal.

• If you have ever suffered from liver tumours.

• If you are allergic to any of the active or inactive ingredients of Femodette as listed above.

• If you have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammatory bowel disease).

• If you have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE – a disease affecting your natural defence system).

• If you have haemolytic-uraemic syndrome (HUS – a disorder of blood clotting causing failure of the kidneys).

• If you have sickle cell anaemia, a hereditary disease affecting red blood cells.

• If you have pancreatitis, a disease-causing an inflamed pancreas.

• If you have recently given birth, you are at a significantly higher risk of developing blood clots.

• If you have varicose veins or superficial thrombophlebitis, a condition causing blood clotting in a superficial vein.

• If you are a Type 1 or 2 diabetic or are overweight.

• If you have a history of heart complications or blood clotting, either yourself or within your immediate family.

• If you have been inflicted by the rare hereditary disease, porphyria.

• If an ailment of yours has been adversely affected by a pregnancy or prior use of the Pill.

Ensure that your doctor or any other relevant medical professionals are aware that you are taking Femodette or if you plan to take another medicine at the same time. Some medicines can have an influence on the blood levels of Femodette and can stop it from working properly – for example:

• Certain epilepsy medications can cause complications

• Some medicines used to treat HIV and Hepatitis C viral infections (so-called protease inhibitors and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors)

• griseofulvin (an anti-fungal medicine)

• Certain antibiotics

• A type of sedative called barbiturates

• St. John’s Wort (a herbal remedy).

Femodette contains lactose and sucrose and so may cause hypersensitivity in some people. If you are aware of such allergies, consult your doctor before purchasing Femodette online.
