Each treatment type works in slightly different ways, but most work by targeting blood flow since erections rely on proper circulation to the penis.

• Block an enzyme called PDE5 (phosphodiesterase-5) that normally breaks down cGMP (a chemical that relaxes blood vessels)
• This allows cGMP to accumulate, keeping blood vessels in the penis dilated

Injections

• Deliver a type of drug called a vasodilator (like alprostadil) directly to erectile tissue
• These compounds relax smooth muscle and expand blood vessels
• Create an erection regardless of arousal state

Creams & gels

• Contain medications (often similar to injection ingredients) that absorb through penile skin, although Eroxon Stimgel is drug-free.
• Increase local blood flow and tissue relaxation
• Can be less effective than other methods as absorption may be inconsistent
