What is the difference between Cialis and Tadalafil?

Is Cialis available without a prescription?
There is an over-the-counter version of Cialis called Cialis Together, these are 10mg tablets available in boxes of 4 or 8.
How does Cialis work?
Cialis is one of a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. These work by increasing the blood flow to the penis when sexually aroused, resulting in an erection that is strong enough and lasts long enough to enjoy sex.
Cialis will not give you instant or uncontrolled erections, you will always need to be sexually aroused. You will also lose your erection after ejaculation (coming) as normal.
Is Cialis the right treatment for me?
Sometimes Cialis can be unsafe to use.

Cialis alternatives
Generic Tadalafil is the same medicine as Cialis, this would be a good alternative for someone who finds Cialis or Cialis together works for them but is looking for something better priced. Generic Tadalafil is available in all the same strengths as Cialis.
If you’re looking for an alternative to Cialis because it doesn’t suit you, another medicine in the same group that works in a similar way is Sildenafil.
It’s important to know that if one medicine from this group hasn’t worked well, that doesn’t mean they all won’t.
More advice about erectile dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is incredibly common and can happen every time you have sex or only sometimes.
It can be caused by something physical like high blood pressure or diabetes so we strongly recommend you get a health check with your usual doctor, especially if you’ve only experienced ED recently. If it all feels too embarrassing, you don’t have to tell them why you’re getting a check-up or mention it only at the end of your appointment.
ED can also be caused by emotional and psychological events like stress, depression or a relationship breakdown. These are recognised and valid causes of sexual dysfunction and can be treated with medicines like Cialis.

When to take Cialis for best results
Cialis 10mg and 20mg tablets should be taken around 30 minutes before sex and stay working for up to 36 hours.
As Cialis keeps working for up to 36 hours, this 30 minutes is not strict, just the minimum. If you take a tablet and don’t have sex for a couple of hours, this is not a problem and you should still achieve an erection as expected.
Cialis 2.5mg and 5mg tablets should be taken once daily every day. This provides a continuous low level of medicine in the body, allowing erections to be spontaneous.
You should not take any other ED medicines within 36 hours of taking Cialis.
How often can I take Cialis?
10mg and 20mg strengths can be taken every 36 hours if needed, they should not be taken more frequently than this. If you use more than two or three Cialis per week we recommend you try the 2.5mg or 5mg daily tablets.
The 2.5mg and 5mg tablets should be taken once daily only. These can take up to two weeks to be fully effective.
How long does Cialis last for?
Cialis stays working in the body for 36 hours, meaning a tablet taken on a Friday night should still work on Sunday morning.
What dose of Cialis do I take?
If you haven’t used Cialis before and want to use it on demand, you should start with 10mg and take it around 30 minutes before sex.
You should only increase to 20mg with a doctor’s agreement and only when the 10mg isn’t working well enough. This would be when erections still aren’t firm enough for sex or stay hard long enough to enjoy sex.
Use 5mg tablets for a spontaneous sex life. These should be taken once a day, every day, regardless of whether you have sex that day or not.
We may recommend you reduce to 2.5mg daily tablets if the 5mg is too strong, meaning erections are uncomfortable.
What are the side effects of Cialis?
