Teva Tadalafil is an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction. It’s a type of medication called a PDE-5 inhibitor and works by keeping the blood vessels in the muscles of the penis relaxed, so blood can flow through them and make it firm enough for sex if you’re feeling aroused (1).
The 5mg dose is also sometimes prescribed for a condition called Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) which is caused by an enlarged prostate and causes issues like urinary incontinence. However, for the purpose of this page we’ll be talking about its use for erectile dysfunction (1).
Teva Tadalafil is known for its long-acting effectiveness, which can last up to 36 hours. Take daily for spontaneity in the bedroom, or as needed for planned sexual activity (2).

How does Teva Tadalafil work?
When you’re aroused, your body releases nitric oxide which then increases the levels of a chemical called cyclic GMP (cGMP). cGMP is responsible for relaxing the muscles in your penis so that blood can flow into them (3).
Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitor. It works by blocking the PDE-5 enzyme that usually breaks down cGMP and makes it difficult to get an erection. This allows cGMP to stay active for longer, keeping muscles relaxed and blood flow optimal during sexual activity (3).
However, it’s essential to note that Tadalafil will only work if you are sexually stimulated.
What is the difference between Teva Tadalafil daily and as needed options?
Tadalafil is available in different doses depending on how readily you want the treatment available.
The 5mg dose is often referred to as Tadalafil Daily. This is because it’s taken as one-a-day treatment every day, regardless of whether you plan to have sex that day. The aim is to build up enough Tadalafil in your body to be effective as and when you needed it, enabling greater spontaneity when it comes to your sex life (1).
The 10mg and 20mg doses of Tadalafil are often referred to as The Weekend Pill. This means that you take them only when you are planning on having sex imminently. It usually starts working within 30-60 minutes, with the effects lasting up to 36 hours. Most people start with the 10mg dose and move up to 20mg only if they are not achieving satisfactory results. Always speak to your prescriber before adjusting your dose (4).

How to use Tadalafil Teva Tablets (5mg, 10mg, 20mg)
It depends on if you choose to take Tadalafil as a daily or an as-needed treatment. In both cases, the tablet should be swallowed whole with water, and it can be taken with or without food.
For daily Teva Tadalafil, take the tablet at the same time every day to help you to remember to take it.
For as-needed Teva Tadalafil, take your tablet at least 30 minutes before intended sexual activity. However, since the effects usually last for up to 36 hours, you don’t need to time taking it exactly.
Do not take more than one dose in any 24-hour period, regardless of whether you’re using daily or as needed.
And remember, Tadalafil won’t work if you are not sexually aroused (1).
