Betamethasone Cream 0.1% 100g is a topically applied steroid (also called a corticosteroid). This is not equivalent to an anabolic steroid. It contains the active ingredient betamethasone (0.1% w/w) as valerate. It is used to help reduce the redness and itchiness of certain skin problems.
Betamethasone is one of the strongest topical corticosteroids. They are more potent than certain conventional therapies, such as hydrocortisone creams for the skin. When previous medications have not been effective, betamethasone is usually prescribed. In addition to moisturisers (emollients), topical steroids are used to treat inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema and dermatitis. When eczema or dermatitis flares up in patches, a topical steroid is used. Betamethasone reduces inflammation, itching, and redness to alleviate the symptoms of a flare-up. There are different preparations for betamethasone. When using Betamethasone Cream 0.1% 100g be sure to follow the doctor's instructions and read the patient information leaflet before using.
Wash your hands before and unless it is being used on the hands, after each use.
Apply a thin layer to the affected area(s) and gently rub it into the skin until it has all disappeared.
You can measure how much cream to use with your fingertip.
For children, you will need to use less cream but still use an adult finger to measure out the fingertip unit.
