Vagifem (Estradiol) 10mcg Vaginal Tablets 24 is a Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) which contains the female hormone Oestrogen-Estradiol. It is used to relieve menopausal symptoms in the vagina such as dryness or irritation. It works by replacing the oestrogen which is normally produced in the ovaries of women.
Estradiol, an oestrogen analogue that is exactly the same as the oestrogen produced by the ovaries, is a component of the female sex hormone vagifem.
These tablets provide localised relief from menopausal symptoms when inserted into the vagina using a handy, smooth plastic applicator, so the hormone is released where it is needed.
Oestrogen, the active component of Vagifem tablets, acts where the problem is because they are inserted into the vagina. Therefore, Vagifem is a great option for HRT for women who experience vaginal dryness, irritation, pain, and urination issues but do not require treatment for other menopausal symptoms like hot flushes.
What happens to your body when your estrogen is low?
The hypothalamus, which controls body temperature, is impacted by oestrogen. Hot flushes and night sweats, two bothersome menopausal and perimenopause symptoms, are brought on by low oestrogen.
What are the other symptoms of low estrogen?
Signs of low oestrogen levels:
- Tender breasts
- Dry skin
- Fragile or weak bones
- Difficulty concentrating
- Anxiety and depression
- Dryness or atrophy of the vagina
- Night sweats and hot flushes
- Unregular or absent period (amenorrhea)
What symptoms does Vagifem treat?
Menopausal symptoms in and around the vagina are treated by Vagifem 10 mcg.
In clinical studies, Vagifem 10 mcg was shown to reduce the most annoying symptoms, including:
- Vaginal dryness
- Bleeding and discomfort during intercourse
- Irritation
- Soreness
- Vaginal and surrounding areas are itchy
- Painful urination
By aiding in the replacement of the lost oestrogen in the vagina, Vagifem 10 mcg treats the underlying cause of vaginal abnormalities associated with menopause.
