Who can buy Mounjaro online?

Mounjaro is a prescription-only weight loss medicine, so you cannot legally buy it from a UK pharmacy without a prescription (1).

For weight management, Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a:

• BMI of 30 or above, or

• BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes (1).

Meeting these eligibility criteria does not automatically mean you qualify for weight loss injections. A prescriber must assess your health, medical history, and other medications you take to make sure that Mounjaro is safe for you before prescribing it.

Mounjaro price comparison by dose

The price of Mounjaro injections largely depends on what dose you take.

The starting dose of 2.5mg is the cheapest Mounjaro pen. Prices then increase gradually as you move towards higher strengths, so the monthly cost of Mounjaro increases until you reach your maintenance dose (the dose you stay on after you’ve increased your dose through all the steps).

It's useful to know what each strength costs rather than looking at the Mounjaro starting dose alone.

The price also varies considerably between pharmacies. The same Mounjaro dose can cost more or less depending on which UK provider you order from.

Full treatment cost comparison

What you pay over time matters a lot more than the price of a single pen.

Mounjaro is a longer-term treatment that can support gradual weight loss over several months, and may be continued even after you reach your goal weight to help keep the weight off. As your treatment continues, your dose will change, and so will the price you pay.

As shown in the table, the provider with the lowest starting price doesn’t necessarily offer the cheapest 5mg Mounjaro, cheapest 7.5mg Mounjaro, cheapest 10mg Mounjaro, and so on. No provider offers the cheapest Mounjaro injections at every dose.

It’s worth looking across the whole row of the table rather than comparing one dose alone to get a better idea of the full treatment cost.

Why does the cost of Mounjaro go up with each dose?

Mounjaro is more expensive at higher doses because it contains more medicine. For example, a 15mg Mounjaro pen contains six times as much Tirzepatide as the 2.5mg KwikPen (1).

Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical company that makes it, sets higher prices for these higher strengths to account for the production costs of making the medicine. UK pharmacies therefore pay more for higher-dose pens, which feeds into the prices patients have to pay.

What's actually included in the price? Hidden costs to watch for

Two pharmacies might advertise the same Mounjaro pen at a similar price, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll pay the same amount at checkout.

Consultation fees

You need a prescription to buy Mounjaro in the UK, so a prescriber has to check that Tirzepatide is suitable for you before you can order it.

Some online pharmacies offer free consultations or include the cost in the price of your Mounjaro pen. Others may charge separately. At Oxford Online Pharmacy, your online weight loss consultation is free, so you won’t be charged any fees for this on top of the advertised Mounjaro price.

Also look at what happens after your first order. If there are fees for follow-up consultations or repeat prescriptions, these can make a big difference to what you pay long-term.

Needles, wipes and sharps bins

Mounjaro KwikPens don't come with needles in the manufacturer's box. Eli Lilly supplies the pre-filled pen. The single-use pen needles you need to give each injection are supplied separately (1).

In the UK, most online pharmacies include needles with your Mounjaro order at no extra cost. At Oxford Online Pharmacy, we include the needles you need each month and a sharps bin with your first Mounjaro order. Some pharmacies also include alcohol wipes.

There are then pharmacies that charge extra for these. For example, the Family Chemist currently charges £164.99 for a 2.5mg Mounjaro pen or £174.99 for a starter pack that also includes needles, swabs and a sharps bin. That's an extra £10 to factor into your first order.

Delivery and cold-chain packaging

Mounjaro KwikPens should be stored in a fridge at 2°C to 8°C (1). Getting your pen from the pharmacy to your fridge therefore needs a little more care than sending a standard parcel.

Pharmacies use insulated packaging and cooling materials to help keep Mounjaro at the right temperature while it’s being delivered. Faster delivery also reduces the amount of time your medicine spends out of controlled pharmacy storage.

Some pharmacies like Phlo Clinic include free delivery for Mounjaro, while others charge a separate delivery fee for weight loss injections. At Oxford Online Pharmacy, Royal Mail Tracked 24 delivery for Mounjaro costs £5.49, in addition to the cost of your medication.

Introductory discounts and promotions

Some pharmacies offer big discounts when you first start treatment. These can genuinely save you money, but the cheapest first pen doesn't always mean the cheapest provider long term.

For example, Superdrug currently offers new patients 20% off Mounjaro, bringing a 2.5mg starting dose down from £179 to £143.20. If you're already taking Mounjaro and switching providers, the same discount brings a 15mg pen down from £339 to £271.20, saving £67.80.

When comparing providers, look at both the promotional price and the standard prices you could pay later in treatment once the offer ends. A bigger saving at the start can still work out more expensive overall if the provider's usual prices are higher.

Subscriptions

Some providers charge a monthly subscription that includes extras like coaching, access to an app or community, and ongoing clinical support, alongside your Mounjaro injection pen each month.

To get these extras for the best value, you’ll need to commit to several months or a year of treatment with the provider. But lower monthly costs may not save you money if you're tied into a service you no longer need or want, and some people won’t actually use these additional services.

Before signing up, always check how long you’re tied in for, what happens if you cancel, if there are cancellation fees, and what happens when your Mounjaro dose changes during treatment.

What does a full year of Mounjaro cost?

A full year of Mounjaro could cost around £2,200 to £4,000 based on current prices from UK providers and depending on which maintenance dose your prescriber decides is right for you.

Each Mounjaro KwikPen contains four weekly doses, so you need 13 pens to cover 52 weeks.

To compare providers, we've calculated three example treatment plans based on the licensed Mounjaro maintenance doses of 5mg, 10 mg, and 15mg. We’ve assumed that you start on 2.5mg and increase your dose by 2.5mg every four weeks until reaching your maintenance dose.

For example:

• 5mg maintenance: one 2.5mg pen + twelve 5mg pens

• 10mg maintenance: one pen of 2.5mg, 5mg, and 7.5mg + ten 10mg pens

• 15mg maintenance: one pen of 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg and 12.5mg + eight 15mg pens

How to use our Mounjaro annual cost comparison

The table gives examples rather than predictions of what your own treatment will cost. When using the table to estimate your own annual Mounjaro cost, it’s important to know:

• You may not increase your Mounjaro dose every four weeks. Your prescriber may recommend staying on a lower dose for longer if Mounjaro side effects haven’t settled down, which may reduce the overall cost of treatment (1).

• Your maintenance dose depends on your response to treatment. Your prescriber will recommend the right dose based on how well Mounjaro is working for you. You shouldn't choose a lower maintenance dose simply because it costs less.

• Prices can change over a year. The table uses current UK Mounjaro prices, but pharmacies can increase or reduce them. The figures are a useful way to compare providers today, but they aren’t a guarantee of what your treatment will cost over the next year.

• Not all providers include the same services. Delivery, consultations, needles, sharps bins and other services may be included in the advertised price or charged separately. Check the provider website for more information.

• Most discounts aren’t included in the numbers. The exception is Voy and Numan, where we’ve used their discounted 12-month subscription to calculate annual costs. For other providers, introductory offers may bring the cost down.

Are subscriptions for Mounjaro actually cheaper?

Subscriptions can make Mounjaro cheaper with the same provider. That doesn't necessarily make it cheaper than buying Mounjaro from another pharmacy.

Take Voy as an example. Compared with its rolling monthly price, you currently save:

• £10 a month with a 3-month subscription

• £20 a month with a 6-month subscription

• £25 a month with a 12-month subscription

Numan has a similar pricing structure: 12% off with a 3-month commitment, 14% off with 6 months and 16% off if you commit for 12 months. These discounts can make a big difference over a year, and 12-month subscription prices can sometimes be competitive with standard pharmacy prices.

But Voy and Numan aren’t simply a "subscribe and save" service. You're paying for a wider weight loss programme, including medication, needles and sharps bin, access to apps, and ongoing support. You can get the cheap Mounjaro in the UK with no subscription if you don’t want these extra services.

Can you switch providers to get cheaper Mounjaro?

You can switch to a different Mounjaro provider during treatment to save money if you’ve found a lower price elsewhere.

• Make sure you'll save money long-term. Don't switch for an introductory discount without comparing the standard price at your current dose and any higher doses you may need later.

• Your new pharmacy will need to review your treatment. They will still need to make sure Mounjaro and your current dose are suitable before prescribing it.

• You may need to provide evidence of your current treatment. This could be a photo of your Mounjaro prescription label or KwikPen showing your name, dose and dispensing date.

• Don't leave switching until you've run out of Mounjaro. Allow enough time for the new provider to review your consultation, prescribe your treatment and deliver your next pen.

How does Mounjaro compare with Wegovy on price?

Wegovy is generally cheaper than Mounjaro in the UK, although, like Mounjaro, the exact difference depends on the pharmacy and dose.

Mounjaro and Wegovy doses are not equivalent. This table compares their positions in each treatment’s dose range for price purposes only.

Wegovy and Mounjaro are made and priced by different pharmaceutical companies. Novo Nordisk makes Wegovy, while Eli Lilly makes Mounjaro, and each company sets its own prices. These manufacturer prices feed into what UK pharmacies pay and, ultimately, the prices you see.

One reason Eli Lilly can charge more for Mounjaro is that it has shown greater average weight loss than Wegovy 2.4mg in a head-to-head clinical trial (2).

Should you switch to Wegovy?

If the cost of Mounjaro is becoming difficult to afford, switching to Wegovy could be one way to reduce the cost of treatment. But price isn't the only difference between Wegovy and Mounjaro.

Mounjaro and Wegovy contain different medicines, so you may respond better to one or experience more side effects on one. You also can't simply switch straight to a higher-strength Wegovy. If you switch, you'll usually need to start at the 0.25mg Wegovy dose and gradually increase again.
