Until now, the most effective Erectile Dysfunction treatments have only been available with a prescription. However, as of June 2023, it is possible to buy one of the most popular and effective ED drugs, Cialis, over the counter in the form of Cialis Together.
Cialis Together adds to the limited choice of over-the-counter erection pills that are available in the UK, including Viagra Connect.
Viagra Connect has been available over the counter since 2018 when it became the first of the available erectile treatments to be classified with Pharmacy legal status.1 In March 2023, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) deemed Tadalafil safe for many individuals without a prescription.
As a result, the MHRA agreed to licence Cialis Together, which contains 10mg of Tadalafil, making it available to buy over-the-counter from pharmacies. June saw the launch of the new medication, which can be bought over the counter after a conversation with a pharmacist, who will ask some simple questions to ensure the medicine is suitable and safe for the person using the treatment.2
Both Cialis Together and regular Cialis contain the active ingredient Tadalafil. The main difference is that Cialis Together is only available in one dosage of 10mg. In contrast, regular Cialis and generic Cialis (Tadalafil) are available in four doses: 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg.
The lower doses of 2.5mg and 5mg are designed to be used daily for people who have sex regularly and want to be able to retain spontaneity in their sex life. The 10mg and 20mg doses need to be taken before intercourse.

Cialis Together tablets are small, yellow, ovoid tablets marked C10, which shows the tablets’ dosage.
As with all medications, some people may experience a range of side effects when taking Cialis Together.
Stop taking Cialis Together and seek urgent medical advice if you experience any of the following:
Up to 1 in 1,000 people may experience fainting, seizures and memory loss, facial swelling, hives or penile bleeding.
Up to 1 in 100 people may experience nausea and vomiting, eye pain or blurred vision, elevated blood pressure, low blood pressure, nose bleeds, or swollen extremities.
The most common side effects of Cialis Together, affecting up to 1 in 10 people, are headache, muscle aches, back pain, facial flushing, indigestion and congested nose. 3

Whether or not you can access a treatment without a prescription is not the only consideration to be made when deciding the most appropriate Erectile Dysfunction treatment for you.
Popular alternative erectile treatments include drugs containing the active ingredient Sildenafil and those containing Vardenafil. The right treatment for you will depend on underlying health conditions, the possible causes of your erectile dysfunction, and whether you have experienced side effects from treatments containing Tadalafil before.
If you experience side effects from the over-the-counter, 10mg dose, your pharmacist may recommend that you choose the prescription-only, daily lower dose, depending on how often you need to take Cialis Together.
A regular, smaller prescription dosage may work out cheaper than the over-the-counter alternative.
If you are still determining whether Cialis Together suits you, speak to our pharmacist or complete a short online questionnaire. We'll be able to recommend the best product for you to try and will offer more advice.
