What is Slynd?
Slynd is a contraceptive (a form of birth control) tablet used to prevent pregnancy. These tablets contain the active ingredient drospirenone.
Slynd pill packs hold 24 active pills (white) and 4 placebo tablets (green). The two different-coloured tablets are positioned in order of when they should be taken.
What is Slynd used for?
Each of the 24 white active pills includes a small amount of the progestogen drospirenone, a female hormone.
Slynd is considered a progestogen-only pill (POP). POPs, unlike combination tablets, do not contain any estrogen hormone, only progestin. As a result, Slynd is suitable for women who are sensitive to oestrogens.
How does Slynd work?
Slynd is a birth control pill that stops ovulation, alters cervical mucus, and thins the endometrium to prevent pregnancy. It works by preventing the release of an egg from the ovary. It also changes the consistency of cervical mucus making it harder for sperm to reach the egg.
Additionally, it thins the lining of the uterus to make it less likely for a fertilised egg to implant.
Using Slynd may cause irregular vaginal bleeding, but some people may not experience any bleeding at all.

Each blister contains 24 white active tablets and 4 green inactive pills. The two different-coloured tablets are positioned in order of when they should be taken.

The tablets can be taken with or without meals.
To ensure a 24-hour interval between tablets, take them at the same time every day.
Side effects of Slynd 4mg tablet
Irregular vaginal bleeding might occur while using Slynd. The bleeding can range from light staining that may not require a pad to heavier bleeding similar to a light period. The lighter bleeding may not need sanitary protection, while the heavier bleeding will require it.
Alternatively, there may be no bleeding at all. These irregular bleedings do not indicate reduced contraceptive efficacy of Slynd. Generally, no action is needed; simply continue taking Slynd. However, if bleeding becomes heavy or prolonged, we recommend contacting your prescribing doctor.
If bleeding is frequent and irregular, considering an alternative contraceptive method is recommended. If there's no vaginal bleeding during treatment, a pregnancy test may be necessary if tablets haven't been taken as instructed.
