A prescription medication called Imvaggis is used to treat menopausal symptoms like hot flushes and vaginal dryness. This is referred to as "vaginal atrophy" in medical terms. It results from a decrease in oestrogen levels in your body.

Imvaggis functions by substituting the oestrogen that is typically produced in women's ovaries. In order to release the hormone where it is needed, it is inserted into your vagina. This might ease vaginal discomfort.

It is a pessary, a little, soft tablet put into the vagina, and it contains estriol, an estrogenic substance. The hormone oestrogen is essential for the health of female reproduction.

As prescribed by your doctor, this drug should be used once daily, preferably in the morning or before bed. It is crucial to take Imvaggis precisely as directed, never in excess of that dosage, and never for longer than is indicated.

It's possible to suffer side effects like breast discomfort, nausea, and vaginal bleeding when taking Imvaggis. It is imperative to speak with a pharmacist or doctor if you notice any strange symptoms.

How to use Imvaggis estriol 0.03mg pessaries HRT for vaginal atrophy 24

During the first 3 weeks of treatment one pessary is administered daily. Thereafter a maintenance dose of 1 pessary twice a week is recommended.

For initiation and continuation of treatment of postmenopausal symptoms, the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration should be used

For estrogen products for vaginal application of which the systemic exposure to the estrogen is very low, it is not recommended to add a progestagen

The pessary should be introduced deeply into the vagina, preferably in the evening before going to bed.

Side effects of Imvaggis estriol 0.03mg pessaries HRT for vaginal atrophy 24

This medication may cause side effects, however, not everyone experiences them.

Compared to women who do not use HRT, women who use blood-circulating HRT medications report the following illnesses more frequently.

Less of these risks are associated with treatments delivered vaginally, such as:

IMVAGGIS:

  • Ovarian cancer
  • Venous thromboembolism (blood clots in the legs or lungs)
  • Stroke
  • Possible memory loss if HRT is begun after the age of 65

Local irritation is possible, especially early in the course of treatment.

Common (may impact up to 1 out of 10 users):

  • Vulvovaginal stinging, burning, and discomfort
  • Experiencing pain when urinating (dysuria)

Uncommon (may affect as few as 1 user in 100):

  • Anorectal pain
  • Vaginal discharge

With other HRTs, the following side effects were reported:

  • Gall bladder disease

Various skin disorders:

  • Discolouration of the skin especially of the face or neck known as “pregnancy patches” (chloasma)
  • Painful reddish skin nodules (erythema nodosum)
  • Rash with target-shaped reddening or sores (erythema multiforme)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Imvaggis used for?

Imvaggis is a member of a class of drugs known as vaginal Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). The vaginal symptoms of menopause, such as dryness or irritation, are treated with it.

What are the common side effects of Imvaggis?

  • vulvovaginal burning, itching and pain
  • discomfort when urinating (dysuria)

Why is it best to use pessary at night?

Moisture in the vagina is necessary for pessaries to completely dissolve. Pieces of the pessary may crumble and exit the vagina if they don't dissolve. If your vagina is dry, you might notice this. At night, place the pessary as far into your vagina as you can to aid in its dissolution.

Do Imvaggis pessaries make you gain weight?

Many women think that using HRT will cause them to gain weight, although there is no proof for this.
