What is Permethrin Cream used for?
Permethrin 5% Cream is used to treat scabies and crab lice infestations on the body.
This cream contains the ingredient permethrin which belongs to a group of medicines called pyrethroids that are used to kill these parasites that live on humans.
Scabies
Scabies presents itself as an unpleasant skin condition and the symptoms of scabies include itching and a rash. It is caused by an infestation of a parasite known as scabies mite. The mite lives on and burrows into the skin.
Scabies are infectious and spread by close skin-to-skin contact. The hands are the most commonly affected place, most likely as a result of extended handholding with an infected person. Another typical way to contract scabies is through close skin-to-skin contact during intercourse.
Crab lice
Crab lice, also known as pubic lice are small insects that reside in the pubic hair of humans and lay eggs. They are spread through close physical contact, such as head-to-head contact, through sexual partners during intercourse.
Pubic lice infestations can cause intense itching, however, not everyone will experience this.
Crab lice are either grey or brown and receive their name from the crab-like claws on parts of their legs.

Leave the cream on the skin for at least eight hours, many people choose to do this overnight.
Do not wash the skin during this period as it could impact the cream's success.
If you must wash your hands within the 8–12-hour period, you should then reapply the cream to the hands and wrist area. The same applies if you must wash other parts of treated skin.
After at least eight hours, you can take a shower and wash the skin with only soap and water.
For crab lice:
The cream should be left on for 24 hours, after this, wash it off with soap and water.
