About the Mounjaro KwikPen
Mounjaro KwikPen key facts
The pen is designed to allow you to easily self-inject Mounjaro at home once a week. It’s injected just under the skin with a small, thin needle. Mounjaro injection sites include the stomach area, thigh or upper arm – you can inject wherever you feel most comfortable.
Each pen lasts one month and comes pre-loaded with 4 doses (4x once weekly Mounjaro weight loss injections), so the Mounjaro prices listed are what you’ll be paying for a month of treatment. The exact Mounjaro injection price depends on the strength prescribed, with higher-dose pens costing more because they contain more medication.
Always read the user instructions and the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with the device.
Please note: The Mounjaro UK KwikPen was updated in April 2026. The injection process, treatment frequency, and Mounjaro injection sites remain the same, but the manufacturer has introduced a new design update. Now, after the fourth dose, the plunger will sit much closer to the end of the pen.
This clearer visual indicator helps patients see that:
The pen has delivered all four doses
The device should now be discarded
This update was put in place to reduce confusion about the "5th dose" or "golden dose”.
How do Mounjaro weight loss injections work?
Mounjaro works in your body by mimicking two hormones your body naturally makes: GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) (1). These hormones help control blood sugar levels and reduce hunger.
How Mounjaro works with your body
Mounjaro is most effective when used alongside a balanced, healthy diet and increased physical activity or exercise (8). It works with your body to:
Help your pancreas make insulin: After you eat, Mounjaro tells the pancreas to release more insulin, a hormone that lowers blood sugar. Improving how your body uses insulin stops it from storing excess sugar as fat.
Lower the amount of sugar your liver makes: When your liver isn’t releasing sugar into the blood for energy, your body has to rely on fat stores for energy. This process, where the body breaks down its fat cells, is called lipolysis and leads to weight loss.
Make you feel full: Mounjaro works on the part of the brain that controls hunger, helping you feel full sooner and reducing how much you eat. Some people also find they are able to stop "food noise" with Mounjaro, making it easier to control food cravings.
Slow digestion: Mounjaro makes food move more slowly through the stomach, which helps prevent big spikes in blood sugar and keeps you feeling fuller after eating. This helps many people eat in a calorie deficit, supporting steady, sustainable weight loss. (7)

Understand who can use Mounjaro
It's common to wonder 'is Mounjaro safe?'. When prescribed by a doctor and used with the right support, it is considered safe, but not everyone will be suitable for treatment (8). To be considered, you need to meet specific BMI thresholds and have a conversation with a doctor about your medical history to make sure it’s the right treatment for you.
You may be able to get a private prescription or buy Mounjaro online in the UK if you meet the below initial eligibility criteria:
Adults aged 18-85
Those with a BMI above 30
Those with a BMI above 27 and a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some other weight-related health conditions
This list is intended only as an indicator of who might be suitable for treatment. Before you can buy weight loss injections like Mounjaro, you will need to complete an online medical questionnaire. Our independent UK doctors will then complete a full medical review of your consultation to determine your individual suitability for treatment.
Use this NHS tool to calculate your BMI to see if you may qualify for Mounjaro UK.
Possible Mounjaro weight loss results
Among the available weight loss injections, Mounjaro has produced the greatest average weight loss in clinical trials.
In the SURMOUNT-1 clinical trial, people taking the highest maintenance dose (15mg) lost an average of 20.9% of their starting body weight after 72 weeks (1). People taking lower maintenance doses also achieved substantial weight loss, with average reductions of 15.0% on 5mg and 19.5% on 10mg (1).
However, while studies show an example of what’s possible, every weight loss journey is unique. Your results will depend on factors such as your starting weight, the dose you reach, how consistently you take Mounjaro and the lifestyle changes you make alongside treatment.
Mounjaro weight loss examples
One medical trial involved 2,539 people using either a placebo, Mounjaro 5mg, Mounjaro 10mg or Mounjaro 15mg once a week for 72 weeks (just over 1 year and 4 months) (2).
Everyone using Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) on the trial started with 2.5mg once weekly for the first four weeks. During this time, they lost around 3% of their starting body weight (2).
Tirzepatide users on the trial went up to 5mg once weekly for the next four weeks (weeks 5-8). During this time, users reached an average of 5-6% weight loss.
For weeks 9-12, some people stayed on 5mg of Mounjaro, and some moved up to 7.5mg weekly. Most people lost around 8% of their starting weight by week 12, regardless of whether they were on 5mg or 7.5mg (2).
Remember, studies show an example of what’s possible, but every weight loss journey is unique.

Mounjaro advisory information
Medications that may interact with Mounjaro
Because Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, it can affect how some medicines are absorbed (8). Tell your clinician if you take any medicines, particularly:
Oral contraceptive pills.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
Warfarin or other anticoagulants.
Insulin or sulfonylureas, such as gliclazide or glimepiride.
Medicines that require consistent or rapid absorption.
Mounjaro and oral contraception
The effectiveness of oral contraceptive pills can be reduced when using Mounjaro for weight loss (8). Oral contraceptives need to be absorbed to work, but because Mounjaro slows down the emptying of the stomach (and may cause diarrhoea or vomiting in some patients), this can reduce absorption and the reliability of the pill.
It’s advised to use a barrier method of protection (such as condoms) for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after every dose increase or consider switching to a non-oral contraceptive method (8).
Speak to your GP or family planning clinic if you're unsure which option is best for you.
Mounjaro and HRT
If you take oral HRT, you should consider changing oral oestrogen to transdermal oestrogen and increasing the dose of progesterone for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro injections, or after any dose change (10). You can discuss this further with your GP or prescribing doctor.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Mounjaro is not suitable if you are planning to get pregnant, pregnant or breastfeeding (8).
If you are planning on getting pregnant, make sure you have stopped using Mounjaro before trying to conceive. Women of childbearing age should be on some form of contraception as the effects on the foetus are not yet known (8). If you have any concerns, speak to a healthcare professional.
Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) 10mg Injection for weight loss reviews
How to use Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) 10mg Injection for weight loss
How to use Mounjaro Injections (tirzepatide)
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medication, so it’s important to use it as directed. Always follow medical advice from trained professionals and verified resources.
Mounjaro dose schedule
Mounjaro weight loss injections are available in several different doses: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, and 15mg. The Mounjaro injection price increases as the pen strength increases, as you’re paying for more medicine per pen.
Everyone starting treatment begins with the lowest dose (2.5mg) for at least one month. After the first month of using Mounjaro, most people will move up to the next dose and continue to gradually increase it over several more months of treatment in a process known as dose titration.
The standard Mounjaro dosage guide for weight loss is as follows:
Weeks 1 - 4: Mounjaro 2.5mg
Weeks 5 - 8: Mounjaro 5mg
Weeks 9 - 12: Mounjaro 7.5mg
Weeks 13 - 16: Mounjaro 10mg
Weeks 17 - 20: Mounjaro 12.5mg
Weeks 21+: Mounjaro 15mg
The dose is increased slowly to reduce side effects like diarrhoea or sickness with Mounjaro. How quickly you move through the doses depends on how well you tolerate the medicine and your progress. If you’re still experiencing bad side effects at the usual time for a dose increase, your prescriber may recommend continuing at your current dose for longer.
You do have to increase the Mounjaro dose, as the starting strength is a non-therapeutic dose that helps your body adjust to the medicine, rather than support weight loss. However, it’s not necessary to reach the highest 15mg dose to successfully lose weight. Many people see good weight loss on lower maintenance doses, such as 10mg and 5mg doses.
Prices for the Mounjaro KwikPen do increase as the strength of the medication increases. For example, the 5mg costs more than 2.5mg, and the Mounjaro 7.5mg price is higher than both lower strengths because each pen contains more tirzepatide.
How to store Mounjaro
There are specific instructions on how to store Mounjaro you should follow. After delivery, Mounjaro pens should be stored in the fridge (2°C to 8°C) as soon as possible and must be kept refrigerated until you’ve opened it to administer your first injection. After that, it can be stored at room temperature (up to 30°C) for no more than 30 days and kept out of direct sunlight and away from direct heat.
If you’re wondering how to travel with Mounjaro, it's recommended to keep your Mounjaro KwikPen in your hand luggage and use a cool bag with an ice pack, if needed.
How to inject Mounjaro
Many people feel nervous about injecting Mounjaro for the first time, but the key is preparation and practice. There are several key stages to injecting:
Preparing your dose
Injecting your dose
Post-injection
These are broken down with simple, step-by-step instructions in the user instructions that come with your KwikPen. Make sure to thoroughly read and understand them before your first injection, following each step exactly as directed.
Our top injection tips include:
Reading the user instructions thoroughly
Washing your hands before starting
Giving yourself plenty of time on your injection day so you aren’t rushed
Please note: From April 2026, updated versions of the Mounjaro KwikPen will begin appearing in the UK. The injection process remains the same, but the manufacturer has introduced a design update to help reduce confusion about leftover liquid in the pen. There will no longer be a so-called "5th dose" or "golden dose".

Side effects of Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) 10mg Injection for weight loss
Side effects of Mounjaro Injections (tirzepatide)
Most people taking Mounjaro for weight loss will experience some side effects, but they are mostly mild and generally improve over the course of treatment. In a clinical study, 79–82% of participants experienced at least one adverse event, and has been reflected in real-world use (11).
We’ve broken the possible side effects down below into the most common, less common, and rare but severe symptoms. The list is not exhaustive, and you should always read the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with your medication.
Common Mounjaro side effects
The most common side effects of Mounjaro are digestive symptoms, including (8):
Diarrhoea
Vomiting
Constipation
These affect more than 1 in 10 people but are typically worse when starting treatment or increasing your dose and can often be managed at home (8). Some people will experience severe digestive symptoms that don’t improve with time. If you experience this, speak to your prescriber.
Mounjaro can give you heartburn, cause stomach pain, or leave you feeling fatigued, but these symptoms are slightly less common, affecting up to 1 in 10 people.
Vision changes
Most people using Mounjaro don't experience vision problems, though temporary blurred vision can occur in the first few weeks due to blood sugar changes as your body adjusts to treatment. For those with type 2 diabetes and existing Diabetic Retinopathy, rapid blood sugar improvements can occasionally trigger a flare-up.
If you experience sudden or painful changes to your vision, or changes that don’t ease after a few days, pause treatment and seek a same-day appointment with your optician, or call NHS 111 for out-of-hours care.
Serious side effects
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop usingMounjaro and contact your doctor immediately:
Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)
Inflamed pancreas (acute pancreatitis) which could cause severe pain in the stomach and back which does not go away. You should see a doctor immediately if you experience such symptoms.
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1000 people)
Severe allergic reactions (eg anaphylactic reaction, angioedema). You should call 999 if you experience symptoms such as breathing problems, rapid swelling of the lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty swallowing and a fast heartbeat.
Remember, the full range of possible side effects are listed in the Mounjaro KwikPen Patient Information Leaflet. Not everyone will experience side effects, and some may be mild or short-term when you start treatment or move up a dose.
If you would like to talk to our Healthcare Advisors about any concerns around side-effects please call us on 01295 262925 or email help@oxfordop.co.uk.
Pancreatitis
Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) is a possible side effect with GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GLP-1/ GIP receptor agonists. It may affect up to 1 in 100 people and could cause severe pain in the stomach and back which does not go away, with persistent vomiting and/or fever. Call your doctor if you notice any symptoms. In rare reports this can have serious or fatal outcomes.
Seek urgent medical attention if you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain, that may radiate to your back and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, as this may be a sign of pancreatitis.
Do not restart GLP-1 receptor agonist or GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist treatment if pancreatitis is confirmed and report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.
Remember, the full range of possible side effects is listed in the Mounjaro KwikPen Patient Information Leaflet. You can also refer to our Ultimate Guide to Mounjaro Side Effects page for more detailed information.

Mounjaro and Wegovy are both MHRA-approved medications for weight management, but Mounjaro has been shown to lead to higher average weight loss in clinical trials. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “better,” as weight loss is only one factor to consider.
Following a Mounjaro price hike, Wegovy injections are cheaper than Mounjaro. Wegovy also comes as a tablet (the Wegovy pill), whereas Mounjaro only comes in an injection pen, and Wegovy is the only weight management medication proven to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes by 20%.
Our clinicians can consider your weight goals, medical history, and personal preferences to help you choose the better option for your individual situation.
-
No, Mounjaro and Ozempic are not the same. Mounjaro is a weekly injection of Tirzepatide licensed for weight management. Ozempic is a weekly injection of Semaglutide, the same active ingredient used in Wegovy weight loss injections, but Ozempic is licensed as a diabetes treatment.

Yes, you can. You can take Mounjaro up to 3 days early or more than 3 days after your last dose.

Most people won’t need to take vitamin supplements while using Mounjaro for weight loss, as you can get everything you need from your diet. If you find it challenging to meet your nutritional needs through food alone, oral vitamin supplements can provide additional support:
Daily multivitamin – to cover any nutritional gaps from reduced food intake
Biotin, zinc, and selenium (often found in skin, hair and nails formulas) – may help support hair health during weight loss
Vitamin B complex and iron – can help combat tiredness from lower calorie intake
If you're concerned about your nutritional intake or experiencing side effects, let us know during your next consultation.
-
Any physical activity will help support Mounjaro weight loss, but doing a mix of different types of exercise is generally recommended. Light aerobic exercises like brisk walking or jogging can help boost your metabolism, while strength training can help maintain and build more muscle.
-
Mounjaro is designed to be taken long-term to support weight loss and help keep the weight off once you reach your target weight. However, you don’t have to take Mounjaro forever, and if and at what point you stop taking Mounjaro is completely your decision.
That said, studies have shown that weight regain is common after stopping, with people regaining a third of the weight they lost on average after a year. If you don’t want to continue with Mounjaro injections, one option may be switching from Mounjaro to an oral GLP-1 pill once reaching your goal weight. This may help maintain weight loss without the ongoing commitment of weekly injections.
-
The maintenance dose of Mounjaro refers to the dose you continue taking after completing the dose titration. For some people, this will be the highest 15mg Mounjaro dose. For others, lower strengths like 12.5mg, 10mg, or 7.5mg Mounjaro are a better option. The aim is to find the dose that leads to good weight loss while causing minimal side effects.
Once you reach your target weight, many people continue taking their Mounjaro maintenance dose to help them keep their results long-term.
-
When you stop using Mounjaro, its effects on appetite will gradually wear off. As this happens, many people find it difficult to maintain the eating habits that support weight loss and end up regaining some of the weight they have lost. In clinical trials, 82% of people who stopped tirzepatide had regained at least 25% of their lost weight within a year (9).
While maintaining a balanced diet and physical activity can help keep off the weight you have lost, many people choose to stay on Mounjaro long-term. If you're thinking about stopping treatment, speak to your clinician first. They can advise whether continuing your current maintenance dose or making other changes to your weight management plan is the most appropriate option for you.
-
Some people can switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy, but the two medications aren't directly interchangeable. Whether switching is appropriate depends on factors such as your current dose, how well you've tolerated treatment, your medical history and the reason for switching.
If you're considering changing treatment, our clinicians will assess whether Wegovy is a suitable alternative and advise on the safest way to switch.
-
In many cases, you'll need to leave a gap between your last Mounjaro dose and your first Wegovy dose, known as the washout period. This is to reduce the risk of side effects and ensure you switch safely, but the exact timing depends on your current treatment, dose and individual circumstances.
This is one reason why you should never switch loss medications without medical advice. Our clinicians can recommend the safest switching schedule for you.
-
The price of Mounjaro is higher than it used to be because the pharmaceutical company that manufactures it, Eli Lilly, periodically reviews their prices and increases the wholesale price accordingly. Pharmacies also set their own retail prices, which is why you may be able to buy Mounjaro for cheaper at one pharmacy than another.
At Oxford Online Pharmacy, we aim to offer a competitive Mounjaro price across all doses. Your consultation with our UK prescribers is free, and you have access to ongoing expert support throughout your treatment journey.

There’s usually nothing to worry about, but if you experience any sudden or severe changes to your vision, contact your optician immediately (NHS 111 for out-of-hours) and let them know you’re taking a GLP-1 weight loss medication.
