Urine infections are common bacterial infections that affect the lower urinary system, including the bladder and urethra.

One of the most prevalent causes for females between the ages of 16 and 50 to visit their doctor is a urinary tract infection. It is anticipated that one in every three women will have a urinary tract infection before the age of 24, and that half of all women will have an infection at some point in their lives.

The SELFCheck Urine Infection self-test is perfect for detecting urine infections and encouraging persons who receive a positive result to seek immediate advice and treatment. Historically, urinary infections were treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics, but in recent years, the use of medicines has reduced, and patients are now urged to drink more water to flush the bacteria from the urinary system. Antibiotics may still be needed to hasten recovery or if the patient has any other medical issues that may be exacerbated by the presence of bacterial colonisation of the lower urinary tract.Screening tests are useful instruments for regular home screening if the user feels they have a persistent or recurring infection, in which case the user may want further medical advice or a course of antibiotics. Home test kits allow the user to check for the presence or absence of substances excreted in the urine: if the lower urinary tract is infected, protein, nitrite, and leucocyte esterase are likely to be identified. These chemicals are not often seen in healthy people.

The SELFCheck Urine Infection self-test consists of two test strips, each of which may measure three different test parameters: protein, nitrite, and leucocyte esterase. The test strip is submerged in a fresh early morning urine sample, ensuring that the pee covers all three test pads; the test strip is then removed from the sample and held vertically to drain excess urine. The result will emerge in the form of visual colour changes to the three test pads after a few minutes.

The presence of aberrant substances in the urine sample will cause varied degrees of colour change; the bigger the colour change, the greater the level of abnormality. SELFCheck home screening tests are excellent for detecting active bacterial infections, and they can also be used to determine whether or not the infection has passed. The three compounds will no longer be secreted and will not be identified in the urine once the illness has cleared.

The advantage of performing a urine infection screening test in private ensures confidentiality while also providing the necessary incentive to take additional steps in terms of personal health management, and earlier consultation with a healthcare professional will facilitate earlier medical intervention should further action be required.

The SELFCheck Urine Infection self-test test is simple to use, requiring only a small sample of fresh urine collected in a clean container (free of bleach/disinfectants) to complete the test and providing a visual result in under 5 minutes.

A easy at-home test for detecting a urinary tract infection.
