Fluconazole, the active ingredient, belongs to a class of medications known as anti-fungal agents. It is used to treat fungal infections and may also be used to prevent a candidal infection. Candida yeast is the most common cause of fungal infections.
Fluconazole is prescribed to treat vaginal thrush (in women) and related candidal balanitis (in males).
What is vaginal thrush?
Candida, a small yeast, causes vaginal thrush. Many women have yeast living peacefully and unproblematically within their bodies. However, other variables like as antibiotics, diabetes, poor general health, the Pill, or damage to vaginal tissues might disrupt the natural balance that keeps Candida under control.
Thrush develops when yeast levels become too high. The most typical symptoms are:
Itching around the outside of the vagina
Soreness that worsens with rubbing and scratching. The salt in urine might also hurt the inflamed tissue.
A white, odourless discharge from the vaginal area.
Not every woman suffering from thrush will exhibit all of these symptoms.
Some broad recommendations to help prevent the recurrence of thrush:
Wash and dry yourself on a regular basis, but not too brutally.
Avoid wearing clothes that is too tight - Instead of tights, wear cotton pants and stockings.
Keep fragrant soaps, bath additives, and vaginal deodorants to a minimum.
Change your tampons frequently because a blood-soaked tampon might foster yeast growth.
Sexual activity can cause tissue damage and exacerbate thrush. Although vaginal thrush is not "VD," it can be transmitted to your spouse through intercourse. If your thrush attack was successfully treated but recurs, your partner may need to take Fluconazole 150 mg Capsules himself. If you are unsure why your thrush keeps returning, or if your partner has thrush, you should consult a doctor.
What is candidal balanitis?
Candida yeast causes Candidal balanitis (penile thrush). Balanitis is a medical word that describes inflammation of the penile end. The foreskin may be irritated as well.
Thrush can be transmitted from your spouse through sexual contact.
Thrush is not the same as "VD" - see "What is vaginal thrush?" Soreness, redness, and irritation of the penis are the most prevalent symptoms.
Foreskin constriction.
A white, odourless discharge from the penis.
Not every male suffering with candidal balanitis will exhibit all of these symptoms.
