Product Information for Gaviscon Double Action Heartburn & Indigestion Treatment
How does Gaviscon Double Action work?
Gaviscon is the brand name of an acid reflux medicine. It also acts as an antacid to treat heartburn and indigestion. Each of these are side effects also associated with GLP-1 use (4).
Gaviscon acid reflux tablets work in three ways:
It contains sodium alginate that reacts with stomach acid to create a protective foam layer that floats on top of stomach contents.
This foamy layer stops acid from coming back up into your oesophagus.
It also contains antacids that help to neutralise stomach acids.
Together, these actions help to reduce the pain and other effects caused by acid reflux (5). Gaviscon can be bought over the counter and does not require a prescription.
