Product Information for Vydura 75mg for Migraine Prevention 16 Tablets
What is Vydura 75mg for migraine prevention and how does it work?
Vydura 75mg is a prescription-only medication suitable for the prevention of migraine with or without aura (1). The active ingredient is Rimegepant.
Vydura works by blocking a signal in the brain called calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) which is involved in starting migraines. When a migraine starts, CGRP is released by nerve cells, causing inflammation that sends signals that tells the brain it’s experiencing pain. Rimegepant is a CGRP inhibitor that stops this happening, so migraine attacks are less likely to start (3).
It doesn’t work in the same way as pain medications, which help to lower the effects of migraines once they have already started.
Who is Vydura 75mg for migraine prevention suitable for?
Vydura 75mg may be suitable for adults (18+) who (4):
Experience regular migraines (approximately 4 to 15 per month)
Have tried other types of treatment, including triptan medications like sumatriptan, without success
Have tried over the counter pain medication without success
Have had a diagnosis of chronic migraine by a migraine specialist
Who is Vydura 75mg for migraine prevention not suitable for?
Vydura 75mg for migraine prevention is not suitable for anyone who (4):
Is under the age of 18
Is allergic to any of the ingredients (see the Patient Information Leaflet for details)
Has severe liver problems
Has reduced kidney function or is on kidney dialysis
Is pregnant or breastfeeding (unless otherwise advised)
The safety of Vydura 75mg in pregnancy or while breastfeeding has not been studied. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning on either, speak to your prescriber before starting Vydura.
How is Vudyra for migraine prevention different from Vydura acute treatment?
Vydura is a unique medication in that it can be used both to reduce the likelihood of migraines in people who experience regular episodes, and to treat active migraines. The difference lies in the timing with which the medication is taken.
In acute treatment, Vydura is taken as soon as you feel a migraine coming on.
In preventative treatment, Vydura is taken every other day, even if no migraine is present.
In both cases, it blocks the CGRP receptor. However, acute use aims for symptom relief during a single episode, while preventative use aims to gradually quieten the migraine system over time to lower attack frequency (3).
The importance of migraine prevention
Migraine prevention can be more important than reacting once an attack has started because it helps reduce the number of days spent in pain, missing work, avoiding plans, or relying on rescue medication. Vydura is designed to help lower the likelihood of migraine attacks before they take hold (2), which can mean less disruption to everyday life and a greater sense of control over the condition. For many people, preventing attacks is not just about avoiding pain in the moment, but about protecting time, routine, and quality of life.
What results can I expect?
Vydura is proven to be successful in reducing episodes of migraine. When taken every other day, clinical trials show that it safely reduces monthly migraine days, with around 49% of people stating their monthly migraine days dropped by 50% or more (8).

How to use Vydura 75mg for Migraine Prevention 16 Tablets
To prevent migraines, the recommended dose is one oral lyophilisate (75mg Rimegepant) every other day. The oral lyophilisate looks like a thin piece of wafer.
When you open the blister pack containing the medicine, it’s important to peel back each foil covering. Do not push the oral lyophilisate through the foil as this will damage it.
Once removed, place the wafer on or under your tongue where it will dissolve. There’s no need to drink water to take it, but some people like to have a drink after it’s dissolved to clean their mouth and tongue. Do not store the oral lyophilisate outside of the blister pack for future use (4).
Storage instructions
Vydura should be stored in its original packaging to protect it from moisture, in room temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date, which will be visible on both the box and blister pack. Always keep out of reach of children and vulnerable adults (4).
Side effects of Vydura 75mg for Migraine Prevention 16 Tablets
The most common side effect associated with Vydura is nausea, which can affect up to 1 in every 10 people (4).
Other side effects include:
tiredness/fatigue
dry mouth
rash (allergy)
sinus, throat or airway infections
dizziness
In rare cases, it’s possible to have a severe allergic reaction to an ingredient in Vydura. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include breathing problems and swelling of the mouth, tongue, airway or face. If a suspected allergic reaction occurs, seek urgent medical attention immediately (4).
Important drug interactions
Always disclose any medical conditions, as well as any other medications currently being taken. This is because some medicines may affect the way that Vydura works, or Vydura may affect how other medicines work.
The following medicines should be avoided when taking Vydura:
itraconazole and clarithromycin
ritonavir and efavirenz
bosentan
St John’s Wort
Phenobarbital
Rifampicin
Modafinil
Do not take Vydura more than once every 48 hours with:
Fluconazole and erythromycin
Dilitiazem, quinidine and verapamil
Cyclosporin
Full a full list of interactions, see the patient information leaflet (4).

Vydura is a unique treatment in that it can both help reduce the number of migraine episodes someone has and treat migraines once an attack starts. The difference lies in when you take the treatment. Preventative treatment is taken every other day, regardless of the presence of a migraine. Vydura acute treatment is recommended for people who don’t have regular migraines, but who need rapid symptom relief once a migraine starts.
-
Vydura for migraine prevention should be taken every other day. This is designed to provide a steady effect of the active ingredient, Rimegepant, to help keep migraines at bay (4).
-
No. Clinical guidance recommends that no more than one Vydura tablet is taken in any 24-hour period. Instead, explore alternative rescue treatments such as over-the-counter pain relief (4).
-
Since Vydura is both an active treatment and a preventative, you should start to see a reduction in your migraines very quickly, provided you are consistent with preventative dosing.
-
Yes, some other migraine medicines including pain relief can be taken alongside Vydura, but you should check the timing with these and other interacting medications (6).
-
Triptans are a type of medication usually used to treat acute attacks of migraine. There is no major direct drug interaction that automatically rules out using Vydura with other triptans. However, if you use both, it’s important to stick to the recommended dosing schedule and avoid exceeding recommended migraine-medicine limits (7).
-
If you miss a prevention dose of Vydura, just take your next dose at the usual time. Don’t ever double up to make up for a missed dose (4).
-
No, Vydura is an oral lyophilisate. This is a wafer-like substance that is placed on or under your tongue where it dissolves once it encounters saliva (4).
-
No, since it is dissolvable you don’t need to take it with water. There are also no restrictions around taking it with food (4).
-
It depends on the severity of your kidney or liver problem. It can usually be taken if the issue is mild but always disclose your medical history fully to your prescribing clinician.
-
No, Vydura should be stored in its original packaging, in a room temperature environment that doesn’t exceed 30°C (4).
-
Always open the blister pack by pulling back the foil. Never push the medication through the blister pack as this could damage it (4).
-
Do not throw medicines away in your usual household waste. Instead, speak to your pharmacist or prescriber about how to safely dispose of unused tablets (4).
Important - Before taking any medication, it is always important to read the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL)
