Tridestra (Estradiol/Medroxyprogesterone) Tablets 91 is a Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). It contains two female hormones an Oestrogen-Estradiol and a Progestogen-Medroxyprogesterone. It is used to prevent osteoporosis and relieve menopausal symptoms.
Tridestra is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) preparation. It comes in three different tablet varieties: white, blue, and yellow. The white pills contain estradiol, blue tablets include estradiol plus medroxyprogesterone, and yellow tablets contain no active ingredient (ie they are a placebo). The primary female sex hormones, oestrogen and progesterone, are found in the compounds estradiol and medroxyprogesterone. Medroxyprogesterone is a synthetic version of progesterone, and estradiol is a naturally occurring form of oestrogen.
Tridestra is a sequential variation of combined HRT. Sequential combined HRT typically involves taking oestrogen continuously while also supplementing with a progestogen for the final 12 to 14 days of each monthly cycle. After stopping the progestogen, this typically causes a withdrawal bleed once a month. Tridestra differs in that it runs on a three-month cycle.
The white tablets taken for the first 70 days contain just estradiol, the blue ones taken for days 71 to 84 contain estradiol and medroxyprogesterone, and the yellow ones taken for days 85 to 91 contain no active ingredient at all (placebo). A withdrawal bleed typically occurs during this three-month period when taking the yellow tablets, or every three months.
